Listen to Arcade Fire’s new tracks

Posted in News, Stream, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on 23 May, 2011 by Chapperdeemus

With the release of their album of the year ‘s special edition comes two new track from Arcade Fire. Rejoice!

The Suburbs, which has catapulted the band into mainstream adoration to the same level of their cult following, will be released with the bumper extras on June 27th. The two new tracks are called ‘Culture War’ and ‘Speaking in Tongues’ (which features David Byrne), and you can stream them below.

They fit in very with the rest of the album. I only have one issue with them. Hearing these songs after listening to such an obvious and conclusive closing track in ‘The Suburbs (continued)’ will be quite strange and anti-climactic. But it is always good to hear new stuff from such a great band.

In addition to the tracks, the short film made with Spike Jonse is in the new cut, along with a documentary, photos, lyrics and a music video of ‘The Suburbs’.

Big Boi’s amazing 2010 record Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is the gift that keeps on giving and the comic book inspired video ‘Be Still’ is evidence of just that. Previously Big Boi and Janelle Monae have collaborated on the brilliant ‘Tightrope’ one of the highlights from last years excellent The Archandroid by Monae but this jazzy little number is just as good!

TV On the Radio reported yesterday that their bassist Gerard Smith has lost his battle with lung cancer.

Our thoughts go out to his family and the band. Gerard was such a talented man.

The record will be called Within and Without and if laidback, sunset, hazey album track ‘You And I’ (featuring Caroline Polachek of Brooklyn, NY electronic band Chairlift) is anything to go by, Greene’s lo-fi, chillwave tones are set to soundtrack the summer.

New Digitalism: 2 Hearts

Posted in News, Stream with tags , , , , on 18 April, 2011 by Chapperdeemus

Digitalism are on the verge of a come-back at last, with an album called i love u, dude out June 21st.

They have just announced the first single for the album on their Facebook page. The song is called ‘2 Hearts’, and it does not nearly have the power and bass that they are usually capable of.

Looking back at songs like ‘Magnets’, ‘Zdarlight’ and even ‘Blitz’ (which will also feature on the new album), these are songs that revolve around such hard-hitting beats and rhythms that have lead to comparisons with Daft Punk.
