Connan Mockasin + Erol Alkan

This is one straight out of left-field: psychedelic, blues pop from New Zealand. So as you can imagine Connan Mockasin is not your usual artist. However, with backing from the likes of Huw Stephens and Erol Alkan, he’s one to take seriously.

Myself and fellow editor Chapperdeemus saw him live last night at the filming of the final Topman CTRL MX show. I have to say we came away with mixed opinions. We were blown away by the track itself (see below), it was such an unusual sound that really sucked you in. It seemed to be one part Pink Floyd, one part singer-songwriter and one part chillwave, all blitz into one hell of a strange tasting musical cocktail. But, by the same token, it was such an unusual sound that at times it was hard to take seriously as we just weren’t expecting such a track to be on mainstream TV. That’s our shortcoming though.

This video is probably the most outlandish that I’ve posted and, at 10 minutes long, you’re going to need to strap yourself in.

Erol Alkan needs no introduction so here’s his remix. Needless to say it’s up to his usual brilliant standard.
