Listen to Arcade Fire’s new tracks

Posted in News, Stream, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on 23 May, 2011 by Chapperdeemus

With the release of their album of the year ‘s special edition comes two new track from Arcade Fire. Rejoice!

The Suburbs, which has catapulted the band into mainstream adoration to the same level of their cult following, will be released with the bumper extras on June 27th. The two new tracks are called ‘Culture War’ and ‘Speaking in Tongues’ (which features David Byrne), and you can stream them below.

They fit in very with the rest of the album. I only have one issue with them. Hearing these songs after listening to such an obvious and conclusive closing track in ‘The Suburbs (continued)’ will be quite strange and anti-climactic. But it is always good to hear new stuff from such a great band.

In addition to the tracks, the short film made with Spike Jonse is in the new cut, along with a documentary, photos, lyrics and a music video of ‘The Suburbs’.

Bon Iver have just debuted their first track from their upcoming self-titled second album. It aired for the first time on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show not long ago, you can check it out over on his blog or below.

It has been a long time waiting for the first track to surface from this highly anticipated album. All we have had before this was one of the best teaser videos we here at Hotcakes have ever experienced. That 50 seconds of video Justin Vernon released was an incredible bit of music.

Fleet Foxes hand out ‘Grown Ocean’

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on 4 May, 2011 by Chapperdeemus

To celebrate yesterday’s release of Helplessness Blues, Fleet Foxes have made the album’s closer ‘Grown Ocean’ available for free online.

This is a gesture of large generosity, considering the unbelievable quality of this song. To release the stand-out track on an already fantastic album is pretty good of them.

But we already known where Robin Pecknold stands when it comes to music’s value, thanks to NME’s very insightful article last month. Nahhhhtt.

So, if, for some crazy reason, you have ignored this album, give ‘Grown Ocean’ a listen, and you’ll beg for more. Amazon will be happy to oblige, though Pecknold would try to talk you out of paying for it.
